EMACO High Velocity Fixed Spray Nozzle is an open type water spray nozzle used in fixed fire protection systems. It is typically installed in high velocity water spray systems designed to protect equipment and hazards where stronger water spraying is required.
The nozzle produces a dense spray pattern using an internal swirl plate. As water flows through the nozzle, it rotates through the internal passages and exits as a high velocity spray. This creates a cone-shaped spray pattern made up of fine droplets that can reach the hazard area quickly.
High velocity spray nozzles are commonly used in water spray systems designed according to NFPA 15 for special hazard protection. These systems are often used where both cooling and direct fire control are required.
In a typical water spray system, a deluge valve is used to activate the protection. When the deluge valve opens, water enters the piping network and flows to all open spray nozzles. The nozzle then discharges water in a concentrated spray pattern over the hazard area.
Unlike medium velocity spray nozzles, which are mainly used for surface cooling, high velocity nozzles produce a stronger spray that can penetrate fire zones and apply water more directly to the burning area. This allows the system to assist in controlling fires involving exposed equipment and certain flammable liquid hazards.
High velocity spray nozzles are commonly used where important equipment must be protected during a fire event and where rapid water application is necessary.
Typical applications include:
The nozzle may be installed in different orientations depending on the required coverage pattern. Spray angle and K-factor selections allow the system designer to achieve the correct water distribution pattern for the protected hazard.
The nozzle is typically installed in deluge water spray systems designed according to NFPA 15.

High-velocity nozzles deliver a stronger water impact, allowing them to break the vapor layer on burning oils and fuels. This is essential in hydrocarbon fires where vapors must be disrupted quickly to allow cooling and foam application. Medium-velocity nozzles mainly provide cooling and exposure protection, not deep fire penetration.
Yes. The high-impact droplets maintain mass and directional travel even against wind and thermal updrafts. This makes the nozzle suitable for outdoor tank farms, refinery units, or transformer yards where conventional sprays dissipate in the wind.
Selection depends on the shape and size of equipment, fire hazard severity, required water density, and deluge system pressure. Engineers also consider wind speed, installation height, and radiant heat levels. EMACO provides design support along with performance data for accurate specification.
Replacement is rarely needed unless there is corrosion damage or blockage. Flushing and inspection cycles depend on water quality. Facilities using seawater or an untreated water system should clean more frequently to prevent scaling or internal clogging.
Yes. Available in both BSP and NPT thread standards with a wide range of flow ratings, the nozzle can be installed in existing deluge networks without modifications to pipelines or pressure systems.
